STORY + PROCESS
This was for the same client that wanted me to design a logo for KM Productions and animate it. He wanted an intro for his YouTube channel. The very first idea I had was that I wanted the intro to be like the Funimation™ logo animation back in 2012.
If you take a look at it there were 3 different themes that were shown: Sci-Fi, Shonen, and Kawaii. So I made a concept. I told my client about my idea and he was very agreeing with it. I asked him few questions about who he was. I wanted to implement some of the things that makes him who he is as a person whether it be his hobbies, interests, and/or occupation. So I came up with a few themes to display (science/sci-fi, military, and isekai anime), very similar to the way the 2013 Funimation™ intro was. So what I did was make some assetts to display. I started off making elements from the periodic table. I made some real elements, then made some imaginary ones.
When I was worked on this further, I realized how much time was being ate up , and I had to touch basis with my client and strategized together. Thankfully, he was understanding and said that he really just wanted to include a spade just like I did with KM Productions.
So I thought of an "Exploding Spade Star (Firework?)". I have seen countless pieces of film when there's an explosion, specifically, an explosion where it implodes a little first, then explodes fully outwards. There are also explosions, planet explosions, that explode and the debris and particles from the explosion slows. Sometimes they slow to a stop.
I knew that Red Giant's Trapcode Particular can emit particles from a 3D object. And I knew I had to do something that was outside of my comfort zone, which was 3D model. I went to ZBrush and attempted to make a spade, but was unsuccessful, so I had to strategize. I thought 'hmmm... a spade looks like an upside down heart with a base with spiked tip going upwards.' So I took matters into my own hands and looked up free 3D models of a heart symbol on the internet, found one, downloaded it, imported it into Z-brush, made the base and connected it to the heart, then exported it.
Then I imported into Particular in Aftereffects, then voilĂ .
I had to figure how to reveal the letters. I decided to do gradient wipe going outwards on both ends and had the letters slowly turn. Then I used Red Giant's Trapcode Shine on the title and made the shine length shorten to nothing (pointed towards the title itself), then faded out the background.
