The Hex Hub Story

"Hex Hub"? What kind of name is "Hex Hub"? What in the world is "Hex Hub" Aww, mann... I have to go back all the way to the early 2010s... The name "Hex Hub" All of this started a playlist I made on YouTube, but it truly started with the (flash) game "Fancy Pants™: World 2" (2008) made by a man named Brad Borne.

Mind you, I have already played this game when a little while after its first release. I have played this game again when a new installment of the game came out on consoles called "The Fancy Pants Adventures" (2011) (I think I got it from my XBOX Gold subscription or I bought it from the PlayStation™ Store at the time). I played this game mostly with my brother. What I remember was when played World 2 (both World 1 and World 2 was in the game). I went into the secret level that was in the first main level (not the tutorial/introduction level of the game). Within that secret level, there were was a hive. Within the hive there were bees.

As I progressed further, I took notice of the art in the level. There were bees and hexagons. The bees were chilling, and there were inside of a hive that consisted hexagons. I also liked the music that was playing in the level (this is the important part).

Later I made a music playlist based off the music in that secret level and kind of I heard in that secret level on YouTube. It was chill and mellow, the kind of music that I would want to listen to whenever I was doing homework or studying of anykind. The very first video I saved in that playlist was the very song that was in that secret level. I thought about the bees and the hive again... The bees were chilling within that hive that consisted of hexagons... "Hex..." Those bees were in there own little world... they were in a hub... "Hub..." "Hex... Hub... Hex Hub... "Hex Hub Music!" And so I named the playlist "Hex Hub Music," for this playlist contained chill music, music that I would play if I was in my own little world, my own little "hub."

Fast-foward to 2017, that playlist has already contained over 200 pieces of music. I was in my senior year of high school and I was duel enrolled in two schools. South Gwinnett (my main school) and Grayson Tech (the school that I was duel enrolled in). That school had a class. An A/V class. That class was a blessing in disguise. We did segments for the school announcements that was broadcasted throughout the entire school in the morning. I was given an oppurtunity to make my own segment. And I thought about it... What if I was like MTV, but I introduce music that people here in America wouldn't normally hear? Korean rap, or music that's not mainstream anymore like house music? And that is when the YouTube channel, Hex Hub Music, was born.

I wanted my channel to be a hub of multi-media like Complex, All Def Digital, WatchMojo, MTV, and so much so. I wanted it to have a whole bunch of things. I wanted to be like an underrated TV channel. Pretty much like that old series called "Raw Time."

So I thought about making my very first logo for my very first official YouTube channel. I looked up fonts and played around with them. Then when I found the right one, that's when I realized I needed an introduction for my YouTube videos. Thus came my very first motion graphic I made. I looked up tutorials on how to animate logos and titled and I came across this one YouTube video that provided a tutorial on how to do a glitch effect on titles. I followed the instructions but made a decision to play around a bit because I wanted to have a different look and feel.

I played around with it a bit more till I was satisfied.

A little while later I came up with a few ideas for my YouTube channel, like making a "Nephew Tommy vs Ricky Smiley Prank Phone Calls" series and a making a service called "Netflix Preview Music" or NPM, a service where I find the song identity of music that's played from a preview of a film on Netflix. Now... Mind you I made over a million views total and over 10K subscribers because I used and recycles content that wasn't orginally mine. I got too many copystrikes and because of that, Hex Hub Music got taken down by YouTube... *Sigh* it was fun while it lasted. After that it was back to square one.

I thought about making Hex Hub into my studio company, which I eventually did. Though I was still a little fuzzy on what I wanted the brand of Hex Hub to be. I was on the path of making a new logo for Hex Hub™. And I played around a bit. I wanted to have the glitch included because that was the very first After Effects effect I learned how to create, and because I wanted a futuristic (but not over-the-top) sci-fi feel.

In 2022 I made my first Twitch™ channel called "Hex_Hub" because I still wanted to have a platform where people could come and not only chill in, but be a part of (and because I wanted attention). That Twitch channel is still alive and running with over 560+ followers.
